Québec city, a hockey city

Dear Mr. Bettman:

I was told that the opinion of the mayor of Québec City may have some importance to you and the board of the National Hockey League (NHL) concerning the candidacy of Québec City to obtain a NHL team. So I am please to write to you about it.

First, I would like to tell you my conviction that our city is a sports city and particularily a hockey city. In that way, Québec City is a typical canadian city. We are still maintaining the number of participants in that sport. Our city have a junior team, Les Remparts de Québec, very well known. We do have a semi-professional team. As you see hockey is a very popular sport in Québec City.

I want also to congratulate the NHL and the Board of Governors for having reached a new agreement with the Players' Association.

These changes that have occured in the economy of the league should hopefully lead to new trends in the hockey world and therefore make it possible for the NHL to reconsider the market potential and opportunities associated with having a team in Québec City and other smaller publicity market.

I am informed about the exchanges between the NHL and Mr. Mark Charest over the past 17 months. Mr. Charest is leading a private committee to oversee a project to have a NHL hockey team in our city. We support his effort.

I want to express our interest to follow the evolution ot this project. I realize that it will take a lot of hard work but i am confident that the group of Mr. Charest will be able to package and finance a private project that would be acceptable by the NHL. Such a project will be very welcomed in Québec City, a hockey city.

Yours truly.

Jean-Paul L'Allier
Mayor of Québec City
